How come I ended up exhibiting?
I believe the entire story start with me having the soul of an artist in the first place. I lucky and always ended up surrounded by art in a way or another. In 2021 I was working as manager in a mexican restaurant, Santo Remedio next to London Bridge. Fantastic location and gorgeous building. The restaurant was gorgeous and like a mistery box. Located at the last floor of the building, romanian atist Constantin had one of his studios. I met him multiple times while he was ordering food from the restaurant, chatted a few times in the hallway until I ended up knowing that he is Romanian just like me.
This is hour our journey began. After a while of interacting with eachother in the building he asked me to help him and serve at one of him personal gallery shows. A couple of month after he invited me to participace at one of his expositions.
How did it go?
The event was located at Boomer Gallery, 150 Tooley St, London SE1 2TU and it started around 6pm. By 10pm the Gallery all guests left and the gallery was emtpy. I had to bring my paiting 3 days prior the exhibition and it needed to have a hanging system.
I reckon around 100 guests visited the gallery in total, which was more crowded than expected. Some of them were there for the entire evening, some just passangersw. There were also plenty of artists who all had more experience than me. They seemed to have a clear vision of who they are as artists, compared to me which I didn’t know which type of artis I am. There was great lively musing playing around, free drinks and small nibbles were saved around the room.
Constantin, the owner of the gallery and the host of the exhibiton was engagin with every guest in the room. He even had a few of his personal paintings exposed. He is a fantastic self made artist, witch a string story and a real inspiration.
As mentioned, I was always surrounded by art, but pursued the most when I was a kid. After moving to London, my most artistic period of time was during lockdown while I was investing most of my time in diy. Apart from this my artistic part has been neglected.
“The door to success” was the name of my piece. I named it this way because I truly felt that such an experience will open many doors for me, and it gave me the opportunity to connect with art at a deeper level.
It was the first step towards another self disovery, so I used vibrant and contrasting colours. The exhibition’s theme was Contemporary, which made me try and capture the viewer’s attention and see how they interpret the painting.
Many of my friends and my boyfriend came to support me, I was nervous at the beginning but as time passed and margaritas flowed I became more relaxed and comfortable.
I met many talented artistis with beautiful stories and art. Artists with a loud voice and a new view over world.
How did this experience impact me
It was my first ever gallery exposition and I was a total newbie in this world. The idea of making a painting it made me think who I am as an artist? How do I begin the journey of self disovery. Other artists stories inspired me to find my own vision. What is my strongest characteristic which sparke something in the viewer? It brought me a new curiosity that I need to satify and a new journey to begin.
Will I continue to exhibit? Yes, of course. In fact I really hope that one day I will exhibit with an entire collection of paintings and a strong story behind my work.
