The Comfort book - Matt Haig
Our mind might make prisons but it also gives us keys. - Matt Haig
How I discovered it
I previously read Reasons to stay alive, which moved me and actually make me think about life and the way I am living it. I didn’t know much about the author itself, but I loved the book and wanted to dive deeper into his mind and heart so I picked up The Comfort Book. I sometimes sturggle to find the meaning in life and always looking for something to cling on to, which made me pick up the book in the first place.
Who should read it?
It might feel chiche, but this is a book for everyone. This is the booked that you need when your hearts is missing warmth and when you feel more alone that ever. The comfort book really bring you comfort by stopping the time while you read it.
Summary and imapct on me
The book is a collectiction of reflections, life wisdom, consolations, positive messages and stories that give us a new way of seeing ourselves but life too. This is by far the most profound book I’ve ever read. It is a small book and a quick read, but this book is not about the ending, but rather enjoying evey word. Absorbing the information an taking the time to think about it at your own pace.
The book doesn’t have any specific structure, apart from being deivided into four parts. It is written in a way, that speaks the soul’s language and you immaediately feel that the author meet you in another life. The short stories are little hope helpers and it just feels as someone will encourage you to continure in live over a cup of tea. This book bring you to a roller coaster of emotions that we would never pay attention on a daily basis.
As I was reading the book my hart started to speak and feel alive again, I think you should have a couple of copies of the book and use one to take notes on and highlight on pages that resonate with you - in my case I highlighted almost everything.
From all the books out there that are meant to comfort this is the one that actually does the job.
What we say aloud can never quite capture what we feel inside, but that is almost the point. Words don’t capture, they release - Matt Haig
How the book changed me
Would it be too much if I say that life is not the same after this book? Apart fom rethinking life, this book encouraged me to write and break paterns that had been holding me.
Conclusion
Get a book, a box of tissues and a pen. This book is a must read, I couldn’t recommend it enough.
